This project was the most extensive music packaging I’ve ever done. For those unfamiliar with Stephen Sondheim, his lyrics have a tendency to be complicated, specific & dense, so Sweeney required a particularly meticulous eye in addition to the artistry part. Working with music supervisor/producer Alex Lacamoire & director/producer Thomas Kail to get it exactly right was truly a labor of love.
Due to the size of a vinyl pack, it’s always a bit hard to convey its grandiosity in still photos on a screen, but this unboxing video gives a better sense of the package. I’m especially enamored with the “Revenge Red” LP material we chose in honor of our bloodthirsty leading man.
Physical soundtracks may be less popular due to streaming platforms, but this baby is the ultimate collector’s item. I coveted Broadway cast albums as a kid, and it is still surreal to see my name printed in them. This package would have blown my little mind even though I didn’t own a record player.
